about

‘The Mental Health Act’ is the title track of the forthcoming EP from Suspects on Cool Thing Records (Asylums, A Cause In Distress, BAIT, BLAB, Beckie Margaret, The Horse Heads, Indian Queens).

After the success of their first four singles ‘Innocence’, ‘Anaphylactic Shock’, ‘Armageddon & Me’ and ‘Recovery’ which were championed by BBC6 Music, Kerrang!, Louder Than War, John Kennedy (Radio X) and BBC Introducing, the Essex 2-man punk machine return with a new member in their ranks – Bassist Joey Halamandres with their most anthemic and lyrical song to date.

The band have once again employed the production skills of Thomas Mitchener (Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Gallows, The Futureheads, Asylums). The result is a soaring, dynamic mix of Hüsker Dü melodic anthems gene-spliced with the riffadelic power of Queens Of The Stone Age.

Suspects describe the release of their new single:

“The Mental Health Act’ is a song about the negative impact that social media can have on you personally in regards to your mental health.
We invite so much attention into our lives. Mostly positive, but sometimes overwhelmingly negative. It can have a real impact on your day-to-day life and can make you feel alone and alienated.
We as a society constantly compare our lives to other people whether that be celebrities or friends and family.
This song is about cutting back. Turning off. And facing your demons. Accepting that you are your own person and that your imperfections are beautiful. And that you don't need constant guidance on how to live your life.”
